- Distributed generation (electrical output below 1 MW) is considered as one of the most important evolution presently taking place in the energy sector.
Competence in this field includes the capacity to conduct techno-economical and market analysis of available DG solutions and the design of integration solutions and control strategies through simulation, laboratory testing and/or field testing. It is applied to micro-Combined Heat and Power units (conventional or fuel cell systems) for residential applications as well as higher power CHP systems for tertiary and industrial sectors, integrated into hydraulic systems or district heating networks. Biomass heating devices (from wood stoves to pellet boilers) are also under investigation. More dedicated research is targeting the optimization of energy efficiency at component level and the reduction of particle emissions.
